The new and improved Mon General Hospital is just three years away.
On June 19, 2005, the Board of Directors of Monongalia Health System approved proceeding with the Detailed Design Development stage of the hospital's Master Facility Plan. This approval put Mon General Hospital on target to begin site preparation this fall for its $82 million expansion and renovation project.

What does the new and expanding Mon General consist of?
- 182,000 square feet of new construction
- 92,000 square feet of renovation
- Five-floor building with 88 new patient rooms to be located in front of the existing hospital for a combined total of 189 beds
- Fourth and fifth floors will each have 36 beds, divided into pods of nine beds. Each nine-room section will have a separate nursing station
- The new building will be tied together with the existing hospital both in appearance and matching floor levels
- The new building will be one floor shorter than the existing hospital, but will have an elevator tower reaching the sixth (top) floor of the current hospital

"The project is showing steady progress," said Mon Health System Vice President Steve Mariner. "We were set back a couple weeks due to the extreme cold temperatures experienced in February, but overall the weather was very cooperative. We are very pleased with where the project stands at this time."

The new Hazel Ruby McQuain Tower, under construction in front of the existing Mon General Hospital, has reached its full height.
"All the decks have been poured and we started pouring the roof on May 1," said Mon Health System Vice President Steve Mariner. Pouring of the roof is expected to be completed the week of May 14.
