Whenever outside guests come to visit The Village, the question they most often pose to residents is: “What’s your favorite part about living here?” It seems like a simple question, but with the fine dining options, ample activities and spacious apartments, it can be difficult to choose just one thing. Many of the residents reply that they enjoy all the activities that they can take part in without having to leave the community.
Each department at The Village is overseen by a committee of residents. The Activities Committee suggests trips, classes, and clubs that they would like to have to our Director of Resident Services, Janet Graber. The activity calendar is dynamic and changes with our population and interests. Recently, a number of residents asked for help in starting a singing group, just for their own enjoyment. A meeting was held for interested residents and the singing group was born!
There was much discussion about the type of music they would sing and the various parts of harmony they would be able to produce. Everyone agreed to meet twice a month around the piano in the front lobby and another resident agreed to take on the awesome task of being the singing group leader. The group’s musical selections will include old favorites, show tunes and some hymns. With a leader, meeting time and musical style selected, they retired to the piano and belted out a few songs before dinner. If they can blend all of the voices into a harmonious group, it will be a joy!
The Village singing group will be making its formal debut on December 6, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. for the Christmas Sing Along. I encourage you to come out for an afternoon of refreshments and music.
