Mon Health System contributes to community wellness and well-being beyond our company walls. Employees throughout the health system provide substance to many programs through volunteer efforts, or as part of their job responsibilities. And, the health system provides sponsorship and/or fund-raising efforts to various programs that benefit the community we serve.
Mon Health System is the presenting sponsor for Girls on the Run of Monongalia County, which combines training for a 5K (3.1 miles) running event with healthy living education. Our programs instill self-esteem and strong values through health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships, and physical training – all of which are accomplished through an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff, and the community.
HealthFair is our premier community outreach effort. It is held the last weekend of February each year at the Morgantown Mall. A tradition for more than 30 years, the community responds enthusiastically to the low-cost (or free) diagnostic testing and education offered there. Every company within Mon Health System participates with information about their services, and most clinical departments within Mon General Hospital offer health testing. Several of our physicians and their offices participate and so do many health-related non-profit organizations.
Partners In Education is a collaboration with Brookhaven Elementary to provide the students with an awareness of, and the experience of, community service. This partnership earned national recognition for excellence in 2005 as one of the 6 best in the country.
Relay for Life is an annual event to raise awareness and funds for cancer research. The Relay itself is held each June and is dedicated to all who have been touched by cancer, be it a personal battle or one shared with a family member or friend. Mon Health System sponsors the event in Monongalia and Preston counties and typically holds several fund-raising events prior to the big night - the Relay itself.
United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties benefits from an annual employee contribution campaign and other fund-raising events, including the Corporate Cup.
Mon General is also a proud supporter of PACE Enterprises, a local nonprofit which provides job training and placement for people with disabilities. PACE Enterprises provides document shredding services to Mon General.
And, our employees and medical staff participate in many other community events and fundraisers.
