Mon General Hospital's state-of-the-art Hazel Ruby McQuain Birth Center opened in August 1999.

Located on the 5th Floor of the hospital, the Birth Center features a combination of birthing and antepartum suites. These rooms include the equipment needed for testing and medical management prior to and after delivery. In addition, two breast-pump rooms, a hydrotherapy tub and the perinatal education office are located in the Birth Center.

The birthing suites were developed with input from staff, physicians and, most importantly, past and present patients. These suites help our skilled team of physicians, nurses and support staff provide for the safety and concern of our patients.

Each suite features a home-like atmosphere. Rooms are decorated in a contemporary style, with a bedroom-like atmosphere, with hardwood floors, and a private shower and bathroom. Large wood cabinets and wall paintings add to the home-like decor, and also hide medical supplies and equipment.

While trying to accommodate the needs and requests of our special new mommys and new mommys-to-be, the Birth Center offers whirlpool tubs, massages, in-room baby cribs, and mommy meals. While our main focus remains on mommy, we understand what a special time this is for the Daddy-to-be and family members as well. Each room includes a place for one guest to spend the night with mom, if desired. Each room includes a cot or reclining chair for our guest to sleep.

Mon General Hospital's Birth Center also includes a Nursery and a Maxicare Nursery. The Nursery can take care of newborns for moms in need of rest time. The Maxicare nursery provides care for a new babies that need one-on-one care from a maxicare nurse.

It is Mon General Hospital's goal to provide all patients with a memorable and safe stay at the Birth Center. However, space is sometimes limited. Whenever possible, the Birth Center prefers to leave all mothers-to-be in the same birthing room from beginning to end of stay. However, if a maximum number is reached in our birthing rooms, new families may be asked to move to a postpartum room to open up a birthing room for a new mother-to-be.
