Monongalia Health System was formed in 1982 as the “parent” company of Mon General Hospital and its affiliated entities – which currently include Monongalia Emergency Medical Services, Mon HealthCare Equipment & Supplies and The Village at Heritage Point. The corporate structure of Mon Health System was set up to aid in strategic planning and to manage the affiliated entities under a common philosophy.
Mon General Hospital, the cornerstone of Mon Health System, traces its roots back to the first hospital in Monongalia County in the early 1900s, and was officially established by an act of the Monongalia County Court in April 1943.
Mon General Hospital has been located at 1200 J.D. Anderson Drive in Morgantown, WV, since October 1977. The hospital has a strong commitment to providing personalized care and service with compassion and respect to North Central West Virginia and the surrounding region. This commitment is seen in the long tenure of employees, many of whom have served 30, 35, 40 and more years. The more than 200 physicians with priviledges at the hospital also have a long history of dedication to the community and hospital, with a wide range of specialties ranging from Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Oncology and Orthopedics to Obstetrics/Gynecology, Ophthalmology and Plastic Surgery.
Also associated with Mon General Hospital are Morgantown Hospice, which has been serving the terminally ill since 1983; The Sleep Center of Mon General; The Wound Healing Center of Mon General; and Mon General FastCare at Giant Eagle, the area’s only health clinic located in a supermarket.
The Foundation of Mon General Hospital is the official fund raising arm of Mon General Hospital and the Monongalia Health System. Created in 1976, the Mon General Foundation is located in the hospital next to the Gift Shop on the 2nd Floor of the Hazel Ruby McQuain Tower.
The Auxiliary of Mon General Hospital consists of individuals who contribute many hours of service to raise money for the purchase of equipment and furnishings for the hospital. The Auxiliary's fund raising efforts include the annual Ball of the Year, Restaurant Club Coupon Book, Basket Bingo, Biggest Bake Sale Ever, Moon Light Golf, Gift Shop and special sales such as books and jewelry.
Monongalia EMS is located on J.D. Anderson Drive, just below Mon General Hospital. Equipped with rescue trucks and ambulances, it provides rescue and emergency transport services to Monongalia County. Mon EMS responds to over 97 percent of all emergency calls within Monongalia County, offering paramedic and rescue level services consistent with the highest levels of emergency services in our region. Mon EMS has been affiliated with Mon Health System since the early 1980s.
Mon HealthCare Equipment & Supplies has been providing medical product solutions to the Morgantown area for more than 20 years. Located at 1159 Van Voorhis Road, the retail store features respiratory products, mobility products, stair lifts, diabetes supplies, the Lifeline Emergency Response System, and many other types of home medical equipment. Mon HealthCare is dedicated to improving the safety, security, comfort and independence of those it serves.
The Village at Heritage Point is a retirement community affiliated with Mon General. It offers residential living apartments and an inspired lifestyle for senior adults ages 62 and over. It also offers residential care apartments for people who need some assistance with daily activities. The Village opened on July 19, 1999, offering 90 one and two bedroom independent living apartments. This was followed in September 1999 with the opening of The Suites at Heritage Point, featuring 40 residential care apartments.
Mon Health System is also affiliated with HealthWorks Rehab and Fitness, HealthSouth MountainView Rehabilitation Hospital and the Surgical Eye Center of Morgantown.
