Welcome

We are pleased to offer a new, innovative and exciting opportunity for you as a Family Medicine Resident. The Teaching Health Center Family Medicine Residency is a vision shared by Cornerstone Care Inc., a group of Federally Qualified Health Centers in southwestern Pennsylvania; Monongalia General Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia; and Mountain State Osteopathic Postdoctoral Training Institutions, Inc.(MSOPTI). This program provides a number of features to help you attain your career goals, combining all the amenities of a large university community - access to cultural, educational, and entertainment activities - with a small town atmosphere in rural surroundings.

The dual-study program provides a broad inpatient experience, to allow residents to feel confident practicing hospital-based medicine. Mon General Hospital is a 189-bed facility with state of the art technology and an outstanding physician staff, with a highly respected reputation in the tri-state area. The ambulatory care component of our program takes place in Continuity of Care clinics and physician offices.  The Cornerstone Health Centers offer a full spectrum of family medicine experiences. They provide comprehensive medical care for many of the underserved patients in the region, exposing the program residents to exceptional training in rural medicine.

Our Residency Program is approved to accept four new residents July 1, 2013. We offer a generous compensation and benefits package. Because this is an unopposed program, you will never have to compete for patients or procedures, always be first in line in teaching and have the ability to complete most all your rotations within the system. During the 2nd and 3rd year of your training, opportunities will be available to spend more focused rotation time in special training tracts for sports medicine, hospitalist medicine, behavioral medicine, geriatrics or women’s health, if you desire.

The most unique opportunity offered by the new Teaching Health Center Residency model is that you are permitted to commit to our program outside of the MATCH. You can be accepted into the program long before February 2013 and avoid the anticipation and stress involved with the MATCH with traditional programs.  Cornerstone is permitted, because of its Teaching Health Center status, to also participate in the MATCH.  This offers greater flexibility to you in the important choices you can make over the coming months.

Now is an exciting time to join the Cornerstone Care Residency Team. As we look to the future, our facilities are committed and enthused about training the next generation of family physicians. The information presented here on our site will give you a good feel for the foundation of our program. If you are interested in learning more, I would enjoy the opportunity to speak with you.
